A runway assassin and a fashion icon - Denrele Edun. In the Nigerian fashion and entertainment industry, only a few names evoke as much intrigue, admiration, and conversation as Denrele Edun. With his towering boots and blazing energy, Denrele has carved a unique niche as a style icon who defies convention and challenges norms.

Denrele was born to a Yoruba father and an Indian-Mauritian mother in Hamburg, Germany. From as young as two years, he started his career. He always leaned towards the theatrical, although he did study English Education at the University of Lagos. Still, during that time, he starred in a comedy called Twilight Zone and a sitcom called Everyday People.

Denrele fully got into mainstream media when he became a presenter for SoundCity. I imagine him clad in ripped jeans, wild hair, mesh tops, and platform boots, which is his signature style.

Growing up, many people disliked his appearance. To the average Nigerian eye, his look was “too much.” Denrele’s father even stated that his church scolded him because of Denrele’s appearance. But he stood by his son, even asking him to stop going to church so Denrele could be his true self. 

This loving act paved the way for Denrele to be who he is today.
